Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Representation is ......

The social group are thriller represents is teenagers. The main character is a young teenage girl.

Are social group relates back to gender, female. Also age, young girl, 16-18. The main aspect would be disability as our main character suffers from schizophrenia, mental issues.

Through camera work we have shown are character mental issue using various different shots and angles. Firstly, we have used a spinning shot using a dolly, where the camera is going around the character. This is to show her disturbed mental state, and how she is going mad. It gives audiences an almost physical, visual insight of what she is going through. Also we have used close ups, of props such as pills, blade to show their importance as these objects can cause death. Close ups of facial features such as eyes shows distress in them.

Editing has also played a major role to portray the characters metal health. Firstly, when the camera was going around her head, and the bedroom scene we made these parts faster to emphasise her acceeding into madness. We made the whole end part faster with quick shots so that it is more triggering, and again portrays the characters unstable mental health, she's unable to focus, too much going on in her head. Similarly we had made certain parts slower, like the running scene to .......

Lighting we had mix of lighting, certain scenes for example when she is going crazy, we have a dark gloomy lighting in order to represent the dark
Flickering lamp whats going on in her head, stereo typical teenagers, schizophrenia patient, just showing she needs help, medium long shots in forest to show she is vulnerabe
Stereo typical in a sense as woemn are mainly choosen as a victem, a weakling in a sense but this isn't what we wanted to represent

Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

All films openings include titles of actors, film distributor, producer, director and the film name. They can either come up on a black background or can be cut into the film sequence. As you can see from the screenshots above our thriller Mortuus has followed the typical title sequence.

Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

What aspects of your thriller appeal to the target audience?
Our film name is Mortuus which means death in Latin. Although audiences may not know the exact meaning of the name I believe this creates more curious of what it means. It is a psychological thriller and so audiences who are interested in movies which consist of blood, murder will be attracted to our film as it includes these elements. Our storyline is discrete throughout our opening however gives a hint of what it is about. We can see the main character is mentally disturbed and has a connection with a girl named, Jade. Through the pictures audiences can see that they were close but an incident has occurred. And the pictures are burnt, character descends into madness and at the end she doesn't pick up her call. All these aspects make the audience drawn to the story plot as they'll begin to question themselves, why she is doing that what happens and create eagerness.

Rough cut feedback
The rough cut feed back helped improve our film in order to better appeal to the intended audience as they told that we were giving too much away, and that our initial idea for the opening was way to long. So we were told to not include the murder scene as this will give too much away and make the opening too cliche. Audiences may lose interest watching a boring long opening. Also if it is something that they have watched before it doesn't make our film unique and original.

Explain how you have reached you audience so far
We have had a cinema screening at the Screen on the Green, a local cinema where all college students went to view our film. So 16 year olds which fits in with our target range. Also we have had our opening uploaded to Vimeo where other students as well as students can view it. We have also promoted our film by creating  twitter page where a larger audience outside the college can access it. Mostly teens use twitter so this is a great way to attract our target audience. Moreover, we have a dvd coming out which will be available to all students an this can then we recommended to friends and family and this will gradually gain more audiences.
